…another door opens.

Isn’t it ironic? And we didn’t even plan it. Turns out the first project for the new house is a front door! It just so happens that we found this lil’ old beauty last week on craigslist for $100.

That’s just how we roll. We see a deal and snatch it up, then find how we can work it in. And we always seem to somehow.

So… a question for you. What color to paint it? We’re leaning towards red. Would love to hear your thoughts.

  4. Love the new door, with all that detail I would go for a dark grey or black rather than the red, JMPO. Look forward to seeing your new house and all the projects it brings.

  5. Red would be great for a true farmhouse feel. My second choice would be black. It's a beautiful door!

  6. Oh that door is fantastic!!! I am seeing a dark green like the door Trina painted on the blog A Country Farmhouse. Check it out. :)
You have such excellent taste, it is going to look just perfect in the end whatever color you choose. I am so excited to be along for the ride. Are either of your homes near UNC Chapel Hill? My son in law is a doctor there.

  10. i was just going to ask what color. i think if the house stays white...pink. sounds crazy but i think it would be pretty...that is one gorgeous door no matter what color.

  11. My own front door is red, and it makes me happy every time I open it, so you can't fail w/ a red door! But when I saw this particular door a french blue/cornflower blue popped into my mind. I think it would bring a delicate touch to all of that beautiful detailing. Hooray for a whole house full of new projects!

  17. My vote is to strip it and put a poly on it...I salvaged so many doors to put in my new house (to be used as interior doors)...I love them natural...You asked for suggestions...Hey, what a great door....Lucky Ducky! tiff

  18. Wow, Rie......that door is seriously awesome! Craigslist??? Really???? How come I never find anything that good there?! lol!

If I were you I would strip it and just stain it. I know - I know....I'm the first one to slap white on something. But the woodwork and design is so darn pretty on this baby that I think it would be so stunning as natural as possible! :)

Great job with the treasure hunting!

  25. That's a really stunning door and once it's fixed up, I am sure all the beautiful, intricate woodwork will shine.

As for colours... how about nice jewel tones? Like a deep blue or an emerald green? Or perhaps an off-white? I can see that matching your house very nicely.

    Good luck!

  26. Oh YAY!!! Home and Hammers will be such a fun addition. I would paint the door a charcoal grey or deep grey blue... but that amazing door will be gorgeous no matter what color!

  27. Red is beautiful. Or even shade of yellow. However, I don't think you can go wrong with that gorgeous door.

  28. There are plenty of red doors to go around, go a pretty blue/aqua and be different but classic. Beautiful door!

  29. someone once told me that when you paint your door red it means your house is payed for. ours was red when we bought it so i'm going to have to paint it black

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes!! Red would be so perfect. LOVE it!

  31. Red is always very nice. Robin's egg blue would be charming too. I love how in Europe they tend to paint the front doors in a glossy paint. It has such a rich look and under the porch it would add a bit more punch. My home is white with a yellow front door. I plan to keep the yellow but in a glossier finish. We need a little help for our long grey months.

    Beautiful door, what a deal!

  32. What a beauty!! This is a rather practical question - will you put some sort of curtains on the back? Or will you live so far out that feeling exposed is not a problem?

  33. I also love "red" doors, but am leaning towards the oh so popular coral this year. Still red, but a bit of orange as well. Can't wait to see what you decide!

  34. I can't wait to read these posts:) The door is gourgous. I really love the grey-blue colour, but you know best what willfit your house;) I will follow along:D

  38. Lovely door!

I would chose aqua, lavender or dark yellow... :-)

  39. What a fabulous door! I love red and black doors on farmhouses, but aqua would look great too.

  40. Please, not red. Everybody has done the red door. I am weary of red doors.... something more natural would be stunning with all of that detail. A classic beauty.

  41. Ooooh, jealous and happy for your find! That door is GOR. GEOUS! love it. Red would be pretty, but for some reason it's also screaming green to me. Might have to do with the fact that I love green.
